Ways to Help

dsv-669x272

We have reached the end of October and the end of this year’s major Making Strides’ Events. The kiosks will remain out and Making Strides always appreciate your support and donations. For this final “Ways to Help” for the year, we decided to use it to talk about and show our appreciation for our volunteers this year with Making Strides.

First, on behalf of Sandie and myself, along with all the Strides committee, “Thank you” to each one of you who put lindens in kiosks, went across the grid shopping with Out Shop Cancer, explored and found a new home from Strides Parade of Homes in SL, bought a raffle ticket or placed a bid on an auction. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!

We appreciate all who planned and held their own events at venues across Second Life. And we celebrate those who became the first set of “Strides Boosters“.

Last but in no way least, Sandie and I would like to say thank you to the Making Strides committee.  As you can see from this list no one or even two people can do this alone.  It takes many, all have special gifts and talents.   We were lucky to work with some very special people on the committee.   So for each of your gifts, thank you Sunshine, Serina, Kitty, Nevar, & those very special ones who like to stay nameless.

As for ways to help… become a new name next year to this list of amazing people here in Second Life.  Watch for ways soon.

Thank you all!!!!

Ways to Help Wednesday

dsv-669x272

Get Involved

During this month we have talked about several ways you can help and make a difference.

Ways to Help Wednesday 10/3

Ways to Help Wednesday 10/10

Ways to Help Wednesday 10/17

Today let’s talk about what you can do IN WORLD!!  Sure making a donation is wonderful and every linden counts.  Sponsoring an Event or Walker is also a great way to help as well.  Let’s take a few and focus on ways in-world to… VOLUNTEER!

Just like most things in life one of the best gifts you can give is Yourself.  Give your time and skills.  Don’t get me wrong your online donations or lindens in a kiosk are GREAT! We appreciate every single linden and thank you all.   Just think for a moment though, did you know in donating your time to plan an event, hosting, djing, or using skills you may have in writing, taking part in social media, blogging, creating items, or even using photoshop, can more than double or triple a donation?  You giving of yourself by being part of the MSABC Volunteer group and sharing information and events with friends can help as well. Volunteering for the Strides Committee can produce thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of linden donations in kiosks all over Second Life.

Our theme for the Strides Walks in SL is “Everyone leaves footprints, make yours count”.  The same is true with your second life.  We all come in to relax and have fun.  We make great friends.  Wouldn’t you like to know that even in your “downtime”, relaxing, and play around that you made it count?

When you participate in a Making Strides in Real Life or Second Life, you’re helping to fund breast cancer research and give patients the things they need now: free rides to chemo, free places to stay near treatment, and a live 24/7 cancer helpline for answers and support.  You may never know the names or see the faces of the ones you have helped but if you talk to Survivors and Caregivers in Second Life who have used these wonderful programs, you will get a sense of the difference you help make.

In the next couple weeks, the Strides leaders will be asking for volunteers for next year.  Please consider responding to that search for individuals and help make next year’s Strides bigger and better than ever.

Special Auctions to Benefit Making Strides!

Thanks to some generous donors in Second Life we have some fabulous auction items available with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Inworld item:
Alfheim Winter Palace – Rhîw Círbann
Rhîw Círbann was built during the early years of the Little Ice Age. Located deep in the northern forest, it encloses both the hot springs which keeps the palace warm in the coldest of weather and one of the elder trees of the forest. For centuries it protected many species of rare magical and medicinal plants from the long and harsh winters.

Build Information:
* Rhîw Círbann footprint is about 50 x 70m
* 1/4 Region (128 x 128m) would provide plenty of space and prims for this build.
* Much of the palace construction is prims. The mesh has a high LOD so that you can still see the palace from 250m.
* The total prim count is around 2000+, the castle is Copy/Mod.
* The plants included are from Cerridwen’s Cauldron/ Elicio Ember
* This is a limited edition build, one of only 5 across the grid.
Donated by Cassie Eldemar of Little Big Designs

Strides Walk-a-thon walker registration to open Saturday

2018Strideswalkathon

Are you ready?

Walker registration is open Saturday — that’s tomorrow!

You can get involved by being either a walker or sponsoring a walker. The registration for sponsors opens this Sunday.

Join us on the walking track from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. SLT on Saturday, Oct. 20 and help fight back against breast cancer. Grab some of your family or friends and create a team of walkers for the day!

Being a walker is easy and fun. Sign up at right here at  makingstridessecondlife.org and collect pledges from your friends and family both in and outside of Second Life. We’ll help you track how many laps around the pink-ribbon track your avatar can make and then you go and collect all those pledges from your supporters!

If you can’t be a walker, you can be a sponsor of a walker. A sponsor can be either an individual or a business. Be sure to check out the sponsor information for more details.

Awards will be presented for Top fundraiser, most laps completed, most sponsors (pledges), and Overall Top Walker. Get the full details about the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk-A-Thon here.
